In Jan 2020, students from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s Connect Program came to Nepal with us for the third consecutive year. A total of 21 participants (19 students and 2 staff) came to our rebuilding project site in Lamjung, Nepal.

The students from UST are full of potentials. Not only did we witness them adapted to the simple environment in our mountain village easily, they also faced all the challenges with a positive attitude and smiles!

Moreover, we saw them progressing day by day quickly in their services, and we saw them falling in love with the village and the people whole-heartedly.

We can see the seeds of "being a change to the world" in them. Light On are motivated and energized to continue to serve as a bridge between the local Nepalese community and the young generation from Hong Kong.

If you want to know more about how this journey has deeply impacted them, please check out the photos and testimonials below.

“…Be the Change in the World…”
After participated in our Walkathon and being deeply moved by the plight of local students who have to walk 3-4 hours daily to school, the UST students launched a fundraising campaign in which they had raised 22,139HKD altogether for our Sanjapu Hostel Project
(https://chuffed.org/project/sanjapuhostel).

“…Reflections after the Walkathon…”
The path of "Walkathon" is rugged. Some participants enjoyed it, while others complained about it. But overall, this experience has brought them deep reflections:

“The ‘Walkathon’ made me think further about the situation the local kids are facing. The walk that normal school kids take to the school took us six hours back and forth even under a sunny weather. I wonder how they go to schools when it is during rainy summertime.” - Orick

“I can feel how local students passionate about education, while hindered by the weather and geographical factors…Thus, do not take everything for granted, we should be grateful that we have comfortable place and sufficient resources to learn and study.” - Karen
